Home Library Service provides housebound residents with the same service as those visiting the library.

What is the Home Library Service?

Home Library Service regularly delivers library materials to residents of Boroondara who have difficulty visiting the library.

Reading, listening and film preferences are discussed with the Home Library Service team to assist with selections and volunteers deliver items and collect returns.

Information and referral services are also available.

Ask the librarian about other Council services.

Who can use the Home Library Service?

Residents of Boroondara who cannot physically visit the library due to age, frailty or disability.

What can be borrowed?

  • regular print and large print books, fiction and non-fiction
  • talking books on CD
  • e-books and e-audio
  • magazines
  • DVDs
  • CDs

Request specific titles by phoning the library or asking the volunteer.

There is no limit on the number of items borrowed.


The City of Boroondara Library Service, Home News, Newsletter of the Home Library Service is a monthly newsletter for the Home Library Service. The newsletter automatically goes out with each delivery.

Regular print, large print, paperbacks and e-books.


Romances, mysteries, family sagas, adventure, spy novels, horror, Australian authors, science fiction, classics and many more types of stories.


Travel, crafts, hobbies, history, art, biographies and books are available in regular print, large print and folio size (coffee table pictorial books).


Australian Book Review, The Australian Women's Weekly, Country Life, Majesty, National Geographic, Time and many others.

A complete list is available on request. The library also receives a Large Print edition of Reader's Digest.

Non-English materials

Books and periodicals are available in Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Indonesian and Korean.

Talking Books

Talking books are available in both fiction and non-fiction. Talking books are the actual book read onto CD by professional readers. All you need is a CD player. We also have e-audio books that can be downloaded onto a digital device such as an iPad.


Our DVD collection contains popular television series, drama, feature movies, instructional, documentaries, the arts and classics.


Music on CDs are available. The collection covers many types of artists and music, from opera to rock.
