On 25 April 2015, Australia and New Zealand commemorated the centenary of the Anzac landings on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey. Gallipoli has special significance to many Australians. For the families of those men and women who served at Gallipoli and in the many other battles and campaigns of the First World War, the 2015 commemorations were particularly poignant.
In preparation for the Anzac Centenary, a volunteer-based committee was formed to develop a series of commemorative events and activities to promote historical, social and cultural understanding of this historic event. The Gallipoli and Beyond 2015 Committee is made up of members from the historical societies of Balwyn, Camberwell, Canterbury, Hawthorn, Kew and Surrey Hills, the Friends of Boroondara Cemetery and Kew RSL, and in partnership with the City of Boroondara, includes staff from Arts and Culture, and Libraries. The Gallipoli and Beyond 2015 Committee met monthly at the Kew RSL to plan for events and activities which were held from 11 November 2014 to 11 November 2015. We acknowledge the support provided for the events, and publication, by the Victorian Government and the Victorian Veterans Council Anzac Centenary Community Grants Program and the Australian Government's Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program.
We have created these pages as a lasting record of these Boroondara commemorative events.
